it won’t always be like this jump some years in some direction connecting stars and keys she hits those chords and the piano purrs the moment hangs there in the fragrant mid-air want that moment, this moment, this is where I just want to be free I just want to be here (there) won’t let the ratio of blood singing to sleepy eyes discourage knowing what’s real, just orbited away it won’t always be like that last night, we slept on the back of a lion running tonight, we’re in tall grass in separate fields plants still sway at the edge of our seeing but we hear one heart and not three (the feeling that’s felt’s felt slowly) all those boys with their beautiful hair strum guitars and build fires to connect darknesses in the wind they’re calling out in some direction with drums and gales and strong chests and songs and phones all those girls with their books and records songs and seasons and memories stories, stereoscopic, repetition and now to wonder how to touch and live whatever it is and not just write poetry and songs about it whatever it is tonight, I want to sleep inside a piano feel your muscles under your skin hold my ear against your chest close my eyes and hear a lion again run fingers and tongue along the high strings chromatic scales and feathers the good and sweet things resonate the forest finds a way inside here it will always be like this my favorite girl has fox-ears and my favorite girl flies barefoot my favorite girl knows me as well as herself and my favorite girl dreams of songs by rivers at night my favorite favorite girl’s not there (here) all my friends painting words and candles and stars on the ceilings of places they’ll only live and glow in for a couple of years do they wonder how to touch and live whatever it is or just sing poetry and songs about it? it won’t always be like this plants still sway

this is a forest and here are the things we know that roar: bears, amplifiers, stars and their children, any place where moving water touches, land, the night, the roar of the beginning, and joy moving in moments when the present jumps and dives from a great height from a loud place we can be oceans we can sleep in those fields as liquid sparks accumulate around us everything, for as long as you want is the lens through which the light passes red? or was the ocean made crimson by the seeds of pomegranates? can you see all of this, too? I know you now in such warm light I listen to the ocean in you with my cheek against your throat and my hand on your hip during this time that isn’t time your breathing becomes the entire world I know you best in warm, low light falling, happy, lavender: in silence. our hearts pounding those waves have such force behind them as they fill all 70 millimeters and twenty to twenty-thousand hertz many hours of the best days on the beaches, in the valleys near silence you are a woodland lion and a live, lithe, fluid wire moving underneath conducting let’s lie down in this library graceful and imprecise draw shadows on the ceiling pull some night into our lungs what’s been a long time coming may be a long time going, too and remembering is echoing, too is it time to go? I know you now in such warm light I listen to the ocean in you with my cheek against your throat and my hand on your hip past perfect, this was a forest drifting above substantial loudness dig this lush languid exposition thinking/not thinking and falling: in silence little fox little fire little flower paw-prints in the snow the best thing in a long time remember all those steps in the snow? remember how fast the clouds were moving when we stood still?
