it feels completely natural
when you walk next to me
I can't help that we're in a beam of light
when we're together
or that it feels like we're just pretending
that we're not together
or that my heart pounds
when I know I'm going to see you
what's between us feels like an iceberg
huge and mostly submerged in something like water
but warm!
and not at all remote
and you're like a calla lily
almost unreal
but a human girl
every day it gets harder not to flirt with you
and on the best nights I dream about you
how can I say in a few minutes
what it's taken me a lifetime to understand?
I think I make you nervous
I think we both feel bashful
I think you're perfect-looking
I think we shouldn't wait too long

another hard-earned fall
bad times provide tension and contrast
that make the good times better
you're gonna look pretty with leaves in your hair
and we're gonna walk everywhere
ache by a lake with me when it gets colder
wind is the sky actively touching us
wind is moving air around us
and wind feels so good
cold nights provide tension and contrast
that make good fires better
we're gonna get closer when the veils thin
when the good dreaming-weather comes along
slow it down
let's live this season slow
let's live it like children
let's make good memories
we have the chance to never hurt each other
we have the chance to live together in peace right here
we have this home that's only between us
we have feet for crunching leaves
and hands for inside of gloves
we have a lot of time and surprisingly little to worry about
I want to spend my seasons in love
we have time and time again to figure out
whether or not we can wait another day

I am more happy with you
I am myself with you
you are more vivid than dreaming
you dwell in exclusive forests
in the country of my heart
you cross the same river as me
and touch me like nobody else
you are passionate and not fleeting
I am more patient than trees waiting for spring
I am a tree waiting for winter
you are made of carbon and calcite and moss
and moments that don't pass away
you are something new under the moon
build a fire in the snow
press leaves in every book
amber is honey slowed-down
we dance slow in old houses
we'll share the winter
we'll learn as much as we can
keep ideas in jelly jars 'til they're ready
pick the same flower every time
share blankets and glances and books
there's so much to remember
but I don't have to try to remember
the things you say to me
it is without effort
that my eyes and mind return to you
it is with sun and dreams
that i measure time with you
your musical voice
your deep ocean eyes
your breathing and kisses
you softly softest thing
